Destination: Life! is the account of an experience toward a marathon. (Read the (really long) note I wrote that sparked the idea for this blog). I do not consider myself a runner ~ not a "real" one anyway. I am a mostly average thirty-nine-year-old woman with a desire to learn to love life, in every wonderful and awful moment.
I hope that by being authentic about my life journey, as told through running, someone else will be inspired, pay attention to what is activated in them, and just maybe enjoy their life a little bit more.
To do this, I want to practice being fully present to all moments of life. In the words of runner George Sheehan,
“The mind's first step to self-awareness must be through the body.”
With this wisdom in mind, I have chosen running as the vehicle to
self-awareness and therefore, presence.
I believe in the power of the mind/body connection. Running forces a connection to my body, which leads to the activated mind. I want to pay attention to what is activated. It will tell me a lot about myself. What I do with that self awareness is another story. But that awareness is the first step to growth, the first step to learning to love life.
PS: I also thought it would be really, really cool to be able to say I ran a marathon for my fortieth birthday (May 2010).
Another, More, uh, Selfish Reason
There's another motivation for this blog. Running is a very mental game for me, and I anticipate moments of wanting to quit and thinking this was the dumbest idea ever (it very well may be!) I am a believer in the power of community, and quite selfishly, I would love the support and encouragement of the readers of this blog. And, oh yeah, accountability.
I welcome your comments, ideas, thoughts...talk to me!
I would love to hear about your journey, your struggles, your joys...share with me!
I'd love to see you at the marathon next spring...celebrate with me! (or maybe grieve?)
